Extension of Candidate Filing Period for the 2022 Statewide Direct Primary Election - UPDATE

When incumbents do not file for re-election, the candidate filing period is extended.

SANTA ANA, CA -  Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:00am - The Secretary of State has announced that the nomination period has been extended until 5:00 p.m. on March 16, 2022 for the voter-nominated federal and state offices listed below that represent Orange County voters because the eligible incumbents failed to file Nomination Papers by the March 11, 2022 deadline.

Any qualified person, other than the incumbent, can now file the Nomination Papers until 5:00 p.m. on March 16, 2022 in the office of the Registrar of Voters, 1300 South Grand Avenue, Building C, Santa Ana, California. 

Business hours are: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Friday, March 11 at 9:00 p.m., the Registrar of Voters announced the nonpartisan offices that have an extended candidate filing period.

  • State Assembly, 71st District
  • State Assembly, 72nd District
