Registrar of Voters Randomly Selects Anaheim Bond Measure Argument for Voter Information Guide

Two Anaheim Union High School District voters filed competing arguments against a $496-million District bond measure.

SANTA ANA, CA – August 5, 2024 – The argument against Anaheim Union School District’s proposed $496-million bond measure filed by Kevin Carr of Stanton will be printed in the County Voter Information Guide for the 2024 Presidential General Election.

Carr’s argument was selected during a random draw by lot conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 5, by Orange County Registrar of Voters Bob Page.

Following the drawing, the Registrar of Voters posted both the argument supporting the bond measure and Kevin Carr’s argument against the measure for a 10-day public review period on the Registrar of Voters’ website at ocvote.gov/measures.

The review period ends at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 15.

The argument supporting the bond measure was signed by Anaheim residents Joey King, Raquel Solorzano-Dueñas, Alan Walker, Jessie Alvarez, and Jose Paolo Magcalas.

The drawing was necessary because two competing arguments against the District’s bond measure were filed before the deadline on Friday, August 2.

Carr filed his argument against the measure on Monday, July 29. Emili DeCew of Anaheim also filed an argument against the measure on Friday, August 2.

For the drawing, the Registrar of Voters assigned a poker chip to Carr and one to DeCew, and then blindly pulled one chip from a bag. Carr’s chip was selected.

The drawing at the Registrar of Voters’ office – 1300 S. Grand Ave., Building C, Santa Ana – was open for observation by the argument signers and the public in person or by livestream video at ocvote.gov/observe

The Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees on Thursday, July 18, adopted a resolution placing the bond measure on the ballot. At least 55 percent of District voters casting a vote in the upcoming election for the measure must vote “Yes” for the measure to pass.

If approved, proceeds from the sale of the general obligation bonds may only be used for the construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, or replacement of school facilities. The measure also would authorize the District to levy an annual property tax through fiscal year 2056-57 to pay the bond debt.
