Calendar of Events for Countywide Initiatives

This calendar is for County use only. Proponents should seek their own legal advice. Dates with the (*) indicate those necessary to place a countywide initiative measure on the June 7, 2016 Presidential Primary Election ballot. All section references are to the California Elections Code.

 

Request for Ballot Title and Summary, Notice of Intention, text of proposed measure and $200 refundable deposit filed with the Registrar of Voters.

Registrar of Voters forwards text of proposed initiative to County Counsel for preparation of Ballot Title and Summary.

The clock begins on the 180-day period for the proponents to circulate the petition as soon as they receive the Ballot Title and Summary of the initiative from the Registrar of Voters. NOTE: During this 180-day period and prior to circulation, proponents must publish the Notice of Intention and County Counsel’s Ballot Title and Summary in a newspaper of general circulation published in the county. Proof of publication must be provided to the Registrar of Voters prior to circulation. June 7, 2015 is the last day for the 180-day period to begin if proponents wish to have the entire 180-day period for publishing the Notice of Intention/Ballot Title and Summary, providing proof of publication to the Registrar of Voters, and circulating the petition.

• Request various reports on the effect of proposed
initiative(s). The reports shall be presented to the Board
of Supervisors within the time prescribed by the Board,
but no later than February 19, 2016, 30 days after
certification.
