Countdown to Early Voting
Voting for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election will open in 27 days!
A Vote-By-Mail ballot will be mailed to all Orange County voters starting no later than Monday, May 4, marking the start of the voting period.
Orange County Registrar of Voters (ROV) will insert about 1.9 million Vote-By-Mail ballots and instructions . County Voter Information Guides will be mailed separately around April 23.
The use of checklists and procedures ensure that quality assurance is maintained through every step of the process. The team checks every 100th ballot to ensure the correct ballot is being mailed to the voter, all inserts are present, and the print quality is good. The barcode on every ballot envelope is also scanned to prevent any voter from getting more than one ballot.
Your ballot will be mailed to the address we had on file on April 3 and cannot be forwarded by the U.S. Postal Service. If you have recently moved, visit ocvote.gov/registration to make any necessary updates as soon as possible and then request a replacement ballot to be mailed to your new address starting May 7. The last day to request a replacement is May 26. After that, you can still vote in person at nearest Vote Center.

Life of a Vote-By-Mail Ballot - Part 3
ROV maintains the integrity of your Vote-By-Mail ballot throughout the election process.
The final phase of the life cycle begins after the signature is verified and the ballot is separated from its envelope and sorted.
A team unfolds, flattens and inspects ballots for damage or marking by the voter in a way that would prevent the ballot from being scanned.
The votes on damaged or mismarked ballots are copied onto new official ballots and then audited by a second person to ensure the votes were copied accurately.
Ballots are scanned and then audited to ensure accuracy before the tabulations are sent to the Tally Room where the votes in each contest are added up to produce results reports after voting for the 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election closes at 8 p.m. on June 2.
Audits and tests, including hand counts of randomly selected ballots, are performed before certifying the election to confirm the accuracy of the voting system results.
Watch the final phase of the “How Ballots Are Securely Printed and Distributed” video on our YouTube page at youtube.com/ocrov.
Your ballot goes through many steps to ensure elections are accurate, secure, and transparent. Learn more at ocvote.gov/voting/life-of-a-vote-by-mail-ballot. |
