Ensuring an Accurate Count
A logic and accuracy test is one of the many ways the Registrar of Voters ensures the votes on ballots are accurately counted. Before and after about 450 ballot scanners are used in an election, we feed 25 test ballots through each and every scanner. A scanner will only be used if it accurately counts the votes on the test ballots. Over three days last week, we marked about 600 test ballots for the logic and accuracy test. We started testing the scanners on Thursday, Oct. 10. We should finish the test by today, Oct. 15.
After each precinct ballot scanner is tested, we assign it to a Vote Center and prepare it for delivery. This includes applying a wire seal to protect the thumb drive that stores the ballot images and a plastic seal after the case is closed.
Before each Vote Center is opened, a team of two customer service representatives will confirm that the seals are still intact and the number on the seals match the chain of custody form for delivery. This ensures no one tampered with the scanners in transit.

Steps to Properly Cast Your Vote
To ensure your Vote-by-Mail ballot is counted, here are some helpful tips when filling it out:
- Use black ink when filling out your ballot.
- Check your ballot for any damage, tears, or unclear marks.
- Remember to sign the envelope before you mail your ballot or drop it off at a Ballot Drop Box, a Vote Center or the Registrar of Voters Santa Ana office.
- Mail ballots must be postmarked by November 5, so submit your ballot on or before that date.

Replacement Ballot
If your Vote-by-Mail ballot is damaged or you made an error marking it and haven’t cast it yet, you can still get a replacement ballot mailed to you by requesting one online at ocvote.gov/replacement.
The deadline to have a replacement Vote-by-Mail ballot mailed to you is seven days before the election (October 29). You will be asked to confirm your identity before you can apply for a replacement.
If you require a replacement ballot after this date, you can obtain one in-person at any of our 184 Vote Centers throughout the county or by visiting the Registrar of Voters at 1300 S. Grand Ave., Building C, Santa Ana, CA 92705. |
