Can Someone Steal My Ballot from a Ballot Drop Box?
Can Someone Steal My Ballot from a Ballot Drop Box?

No. Ballot Drop Boxes are designed with reinforced steel walls, weigh more than 1,000 pounds, and are bolted directly into to the ground at all locations. Mail slots offer just enough room to drop in your ballot, preventing any other items from being placed in the drop box.

Each box is individually keyed. Only teams of two election workers can collect the voted ballots from the drop boxes, following strict chain of custody procedures. And the Registrar of Voters always tracks the GPS location of ballot collection teams they are completing their routes.

Find a Ballot Drop Box near you visiting ocvote.gov/voting.

Election security is a top priority for the Orange County Registrar of Voters.

Registered voters have four safe and secure options to return their ballots this election season. You can:

  • Send your Vote-by-Mail ballot using the U.S. Postal Service
  • Place it in one of the 123 secure drop boxes located throughout the county
  • Drop it off at one of our 184 Vote Centers
  • Vote an in-person ballot at a Vote Center, scanning it yourself

You can track your ballot once you have returned it with OC Ballot Express. You also have the option to sign up for text and email updates. Visit ocvote.gov/track to learn more.

High School Voter Education Weeks
High School Voter Education Weeks

High School Voter Education Weeks start September 16 and continue through September 27.

The goal is to bring civic engagement awareness to our young and future voters. Eligible students ages 16 and 17 can pre-register to vote. When students pre-register to vote, they will automatically become registered voters at 18 years old.

Community outreach members from the Orange County Registrar of Voters team are available to partner with local high schools to promote civic education. We’re also available to speak at local colleges and universities, community groups, non-profit organizations, and other local organizations.

You can submit a speaker request through our website at ocvote.gov/community.
