High School Student Volunteer Program  

The Orange County Registrar of Voters Office is pleased to announce our High School Student Volunteer Program. High school students ages 16+ have the opportunity to volunteer at Vote Centers as Student Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5 for the 2024 Presidential General Election. Have your student join thousands of others in California to support our democracy. Participating students receive a stipend for their service along with great hands-on experience in civic engagement.

What is a Customer Service Representative? 

Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) play a critical role in the success of Orange County elections assisting voters at Vote Centers. CSRs throughout Orange County ensure voters can cast their ballots both independently and privately. 

What is a Vote Center? 

A Vote Center is a full service in-person voting experience that allows voters to check in to vote, register to vote, request a replacement ballot, and receive general assistance for up to 11 days until Election Day.  

Under the High School Student Volunteer Program, Student CSRs will support designated roles in Vote Center operations on Election Day only.  

What are the benefits of serving as a Student Customer Service Representative? 

  • Earn a stipend of $120 upon successful completion of Vote Center assignment on Election Day 

  • Opportunity to earn community service hours 

  • Certificate of Recognition for work in the election  

  • Work experience to add to resume and college applications 

  • Develop your skills while learning about the democratic process 

What are the requirements? 

To volunteer as a Student Customer Service Representative, you must meet the following criteria: 

  • At least 16 years of age or older at the time of the election 

  • A grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale  

  • In good standing attending a public or private secondary educational institution  

  • A U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident 

  • Written approval from your school and parent/guardian 

Who receives a $120 stipend? 

To receive a stipend a student must complete: 

  • A Student CSR Application  

  • Online training once accepted 

  • In-person training after upon successful complete of online training after the application deadline 

  • Vote Center assignment on Election Day, November 5, 2024

Application must be filled out in its entirety, failing to do so will lead to delays in processing your application.  

Parent/guardian consent and authorization from a school administrator is required for consideration. A typed signature is not acceptable, it will lead to a hold on your application and potentially disqualify you from participating in the program.

High School students at least 18 years or age or older do not require parent/guardian consent but still need approval from their school
